He has preserved the honor of His Saints; from the very beginning of time, His Nature is to cherish them. ||2||

har amrit naam bhojan nit bhunchahu sarab vaylaa mukh paavhu.

So eat the Ambrosial Name of the Lord as your food; put it into your mouth at all times.

jaraa maraa taap sabh naathaa gun gobind nit gaavhu. ||3||

The pains of old age and death shall all depart, when you constantly sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe. ||3||

My Lord and Master has heard my prayer, and all my affairs have been resolved.

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਗੋ ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਸੋ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਹੈ ਸੂਰਾ ॥

Jā ka▫o har rang lāgo is jug mėh so kahī▫aṯ hai sūrā.

He alone is called a warrior, who is attached to the Lord's Love in this age.

ਆਤਮ ਜਿਣੈ ਸਗਲ ਵਸਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥੧॥

Āṯam jiṇai sagal vas ṯā kai jā kā saṯgur pūrā. ||1||

Through the Perfect True Guru, he conquers his own soul, and then everything comes under his control. ||1||

ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਗਾਈਐ ਆਤਮ ਰੰਗਿ ॥

Ŧẖākur gā▫ī▫ai āṯam rang.

Sing the Praises of the Lord and Master, with the love of your soul.

Sarṇī pāvan nām ḏẖi▫āvan sahj samāvan sang. ||1|| rahā▫o.

Those who seek His Sanctuary, and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are blended with the Lord in celestial peace. ||1||Pause||

ਜਨ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਵਸਹਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪੁਨੀਤਾ ਦੇਹੀ ॥

Jan ke cẖaran vasėh merai hī▫arai sang punīṯā ḏehī.

The feet of the Lord's humble servant abide in my heart; with them, my body is made pure.

ਜਨ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਏਹੀ ॥੨॥੪॥੩੫॥

Jan kī ḏẖūr ḏeh kirpā niḏẖ Nānak kai sukẖ ehī. ||2||4||35||

O treasure of mercy, please bless Nanak with the dust of the feet of Your humble servants; this alone brings peace. ||2||4||35||

WaheGuru VaheGuru Simran - GurMantar

Waheguru (Punjabi: ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ) is the primary Mantra; it means the "Wonderful Lord". The word Vaheguru is made up of two word Vaah(e) and Guru. Vaah or Vaahe is an ecstatic expression of awe and wonder. Therefore it is often translated as wondrous or wonderful. Guru derives from two words. Gu means darkness, and Ru (Roo) means light. Therefore Guru means that power, being, and presence, which dispels darkness and brings light, in other words Enlightener. Cumulatively, the name implies wonder at the Divine Light eliminating spiritual darkness. It might also imply -Hail the Lord whose Name eliminates spiritual darkness. Thus the two constituents of Vaheguru (Vaahe+Guroo) implies the state of wondrous ecstasy and offering homage to the Divine Creator Being.

Five Enemies Of Mankind/Humanity

One day, a Sikh named Kadhari, came to see the 2nd Guru Ji - Guru Angad Dev Ji. He had come in a “Vairaag”, bowed down before Guru Ji and asked the following question:

Q. The five enemies of mankind/humanity, namely lust, anger, greed, worldly attachment and the ego have surrounded the whole world. How can we save ourselves from their deadly clutches? If we can know them then some defense against them is possible, but most of the world is not even aware of their existence.

Guru Angad Dev ji gave a “Parman” or example. He told the Sikh that, when a jungle catches fire most of the animals are unable to run to safety and so they perish. But there is one animal, a deer or “Hiran” which can run so fast and so reaches safety when the jungle is on fire; it runs towards a river, submerges itself in the cold water and escapes being burnt. The fire cannot reach it and it gets peace there or “Sukh”. Mankind is also surrounded by the fire of “Kal” and he is unable to avoid this fire unlike the deer.

Mankind/humanity is in trouble; they have no peace of mind in whose house the five robbers of lust, anger, greed, worldly attachments and ego have entered. Can that house be saved? Surely not, because only a few, like the deer, are saved. The river of cold water is the Satsang. Guru Ji further explained that Satsang is where praise alone is showered in God’s Name. In such a “river of Satsang” the five evil forces of the mind are destroyed and the coldness against the world’s fire is provided by the Guru’s Shabad or light.

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥

Serve the Immaculate Lord God, and meditate on the Lord's Name.

ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ;

ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ = ਅੰਜਨ-ਰਹਿਤ, ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ।

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਲਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥

Join the Society of the Holy Saints, and be absorbed in the Lord's Name.

(ਪਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ; (ਪਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡੀ ਕਾਰ ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਲਾਈਐ ॥

O Lord, glorious and great is service to You; I am so foolish

ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਾਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਭਗਤੀ) ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈ;

ਮੈ = ਮੈਨੂੰ।

ਹਉ ਗੋਲਾ ਲਾਲਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਮੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਈਐ ॥

- please, commit me to it. I am Your servant and slave; command me, according to Your Will.

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ;

ਹਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਾ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ॥੨॥

As Gurmukh, I shall serve You, as Guru has instructed me. ||2||

(ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕਿ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਕਾਰ ਸਮਝਾਈ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮੈਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਰਾਂ ॥੨॥

ਗੁਰਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ॥੨॥

ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਾਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਭਗਤੀ) ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈ; ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ; (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕਿ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਕਾਰ ਸਮਝਾਈ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮੈਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਰਾਂ ॥੨॥

SHALOK, THIRD MEHL:

He acts according to pre-ordained destiny, written by the Creator Himself. Emotional attachment has drugged him, and he has forgotten the Lord, the treasure of virtue. Don’t think that he is alive in the world o he is dead, through the love of duality.

Those who do not meditate on the Lord, as Gurmukh, are not permitted to sit near the Lord. They suffer the most horrible pain and suffering, and neither their sons nor their wives go along with them. Their faces are blackened among men, and they sigh in deep regret. No one places any reliance in the self-willed manmukhs; trust in them is lost. O Nanak, the Gurmukhs live inabsolute peace; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, abides within them.
