The Lord's Feet are the Treasure of all peace and comfort for them; they cross over the terrifying and treacherous world-ocean.

They obtain love and devotion, and they do not burn in corruption

Falsehood has vanished, duality has been erased, and they are totally overflowing with Truth.

They serve the Supreme Lord God, and enshrine the One Lord within their minds.

The months, the days, and the moments are auspicious, for those upon whom the Lord casts His Glance of Grace.

They find peace in singing praises of the Lord.
To them friends and enemies are alike, brother,
And other than their God they know not another.
Millions upon millions of sins they wash.
They are removers of sufferings, givers of life.
Heroic warriors, men of their word,
Even Maya (illusion) by saints was deceived.
The gods and angels long for their company.
Their blessed glimpse never fruitless be.
Serving them always bears fruit.

The Guru Meets the Lord

The Guru was neither drowned, nor he deliberately went into hiding.
He went to meet the Lord.
How? Nobody knows how and nobody can tell, because the Lords is not in human form like us. It is something that is not of flesh and blood like the body, but something else very subtle.

His going to the Lord is described in the old biografphy in a language that we may underestand. It is griten that such bright, handsome, dazzling angels, messengers of the Lord came from the heavens and took him to the Lord.
There he bowed to the Lord with repect and love and touched His feet and then stood respectfully with folded hands. The Lord was gracious. The Lord ordered his messengers to give to Nanak, the bowl of nectar.
The Lord said: This nectar is a bowl full of my name. You drink.
Guru Nanak took it. Drank it and the Lord was gracious.
The Lord said: Nanak, I am with you. I have blessed you and blessed are those who recite your name.
You go and recite my name and tell the people to recite my name.
Remain detached from the world. Remain in the name. Be a giver.
Give name, service to humanity and charity to the people. Remain in remembrance of me.
I have given you muy name. Your work is to distrubute it.
Guru Nanak thanked the Lord and stood up.
The Lord said: O Nanak, say, how big is my name?
Then the Guru touched his forehead to the Lord’s feet, strood up and said in praise of the Lord: if my age be thousands and tousands of years and I do not see the sun setting and the setting of the moon, and I do not sleep even in a dream, however much I recite your name, its value will still be uncountable.
When Guru Nanak uttered these words, then again the Lord said, and it was and order.
O Nanak, whomsoever I am gracious to, you bless him.
I shall bless him also.
My name is Guru Almighty.
Guru Nanak fell at the Lord’s feet and the Lord blessed him with a robe of honor.
Then the Lord ordained His messengers to take him back to the sem bank of the stream. And the Guru reappeared there on the tirad day.

Q: Well, can you tell if Guru Nanak himself has narrated this “going to the Lord’s palace and being honored” that we may be able to understand?
Ans: Yes, He has mentioned it in the Scriptures. He says: I was a humble singer. I was good for nothing.
Q: Singers are sonsidered as low caste, but the Guru Was from Khatri ancestry that is upper caste.
Ans: He is not mentioning the caste. Out of humility, he calls himself a singer, a singer of the Lord’s hyms. A person who sings the Lord’s hymns and praises cannot be considered very high.
Then he says: I was good for hothing. It was the Guru’s nature to call himself like that. It doesn’t mean that he was like that. It means he had not the slightest ego in him.
Then he says: My master called me to His “True abode”.
By master, he means the Lord. And “True abode” is where the Lord resides,that is the Lord’s palace.
Then he says: I was blessed with a robe of honor.
This robe of honor is the singing of His hymns and praises.
Q: Did he describe what the Lord offered him to eat while he was at the Lord’s palace?
Ans: He says: The Lord offered me His name to drink that was as sweet as nectar. After drinking that, one gets eternal apiñes. Ones gets out of the cycles of births and deaths and one lives with the Lord always.

The name and the divine humns that I have got from Him now I am distributing to the people. Those who recite the Name and sing the hymns that I have given to them are on the true path towards the Lord.
They have got inner happines
In admiration of the tue Lord, I am telling: Lord is Supreme. I am inmersed in the Love of the Lord.
In theis way, the Guru is telling us about his going to the Lord’s palace, but he is not proud that “I have been to the Lord’s palace that is so exalted, and now I have become great”.
Our fifth Guru, Guru Arjan Dev has said: Guru Nanak is the Lord’s image.
The poet Bhat said: The Lord Himself came to the Earth.
Bhai Gurdass said: Guru Nanak is the Lord, who has created this world.
We should not think that the Lord was born. The Lord is above the cycle of births and deaths.
But it is somewhat like: When a piece of gold is put in fire it ecomes fire. It is gold also and fire also. Guru Nanak himself gave a similar example to emperor Ibrahim Lodhi., when he met him at Delhi.
Guru Almighty means: Guru who has to join the separated with the Lord.
Guru Nanak himself is immersed in the Lord’s Love and thus His image.

los cielos y lo llevaron al Señor.

Allí se inclinó ante el Señor con respeto y amor y tocó sus pies y
despues se levanto respetuosamente con las manos juntas. El Señor fue
cortes. El Señor ordenó a sus mensajeros dar a Nanak, el tazón de
néctar.

El Señor dijo: Este néctar es un tazón lleno de mi nombre. Bebe.
Guru Nanak lo cogio. Se lo bebió, y el Señor fue cortes.

El Señor dijo: Nanak, yo estoy contigo. Te he bendecido y benditos son
aquellos que recitan tu nombre.

Ves y recita mi nombre y dile a la gente que recite mi nombre.

Permanece alejado del mundo. Permanece en el nombre. Se un dador.

Da nombre, servicio a la humanidad y caridad a la gente. Permanece en
memoria de mí.

Te he dado mi nombre. Tu trabajo es repartirlo.

veo puesta de sol ni puesta de la luna, y no duermo ni en un sueño,
cuanto más recite tu nombre, su valor seguirá siendo incalculable.

Cuando Guru Nanak pronunció esas palabras, de nuevo el Señor dijo, y
eso fue una orden.

Oh Nanak, con quien yo sea cortes, tu bendicelo.

Yo tambien lo bendecire.

Mi nombre es Guru Todopoderoso.

Guru Nanak cayó a los pies del Señor y el Señor lo bendijo con un
manto de honor.

Entonces el Señor ordenó a sus mensajeros que lo llevaran de regreso a
la misma orilla de la corriente. Y el Gurú reaparecio allí al final
del dia.

Pregunta: Bien, puedes decirme si Guru Nanak mismo ha narrado esto

Entonces dice: Mi maestro me llamó a su "verdadera morada"

Por maestro, el quiere decir el Señor. Y "Verdadera morada" es donde
reside el Señor, ese es el palacio del Señor.

Luego dice: Fui bendecido con una túnica de honor.

Este manto de honor es el canto de sus himnos y alabanzas.

Pregunta: ¿describio lo que el Señor le ofreció para comer mientras
estaba en el palacio del Señor?

Respuesta: Él dice: El Señor me ofreció su nombre para beber, era tan
dulce como néctar. Después de beberlo, uno obtiene la felicidad
eterna. Uno sale de los ciclos de nacimientos y muertes y uno vive
siempre con el Señor.

El nombre y los himnos divinos que obtuve de él, ahora los estoy
repartiendo a la gente. Los que recitan el nombre y cantan los himnos
que les he dado están en el verdadero camino hacia el Señor.

Admirando al verdadero Señor, digo: El Señor es Supremo. Estoy inmerso

De esta manera, el Gurú nos habla acerca de su ida al palacio del
Señor, pero él no está orgulloso de "he estado en el palacio del
Señor, que es tan exaltado, y ahora me he convertido en grande".

Nuestro quinto Guru, Guru Arjan Dev dijo: Guru Nanak es la imagen del Señor.

El poeta Bhat dijo: El Señor Mismo vino a la Tierra.

Bhai Gurdass dijo: Guru Nanak es el Señor, quien ha creado este mundo.

No debemos pensar que el Señor nació. El Señor está por encima del
ciclo de nacimientos y muertes.

Sino que es algo así como: Cuando un pedazo de oro se pone en el
fuego, se vuelve fuego. Es oro y fuego también. Guru Nanak mismo dio
un ejemplo similar al emperador Ibrahim Lodhi, cuando se reunió con él
en Delhi.

Guru Todopoderoso significa: Guru que tiene que unirse a los separados
con el Señor.

Ang 578, 579 • Guru Nanak Dev Ji • Raag Vadhans
Raag Wadahans, First Mehl, Fifth House, Alaahanees ~ Songs Of Mourning: One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: Blessed is the Creator, the True King, who has linked the whole world to its tasks. When one's time is up, and the measure is full, this dear soul is caught, and driven off. This dear soul is driven off, when the pre-ordained Order is received, and all the relatives cry out in mourning. The body and the swan-soul are separated, when one's days are past and done, O my mother. As is one's pre-ordained Destiny, so does one receive, according to one's past actions. Blessed is the Creator, the True King, who has linked the whole world to its tasks. ||1|| Meditate in remembrance on the Lord and Master, O my Siblings of Destiny; everyone has to pass this way. These false entanglements last for only a few days; then, one must surely move on to the world hereafter. He must surely move on to the world hereafter, like a guest; so why does he indulge in ego? Chant the Name of the Lord; serving Him, you shall obtain peace in His Court. In the world hereafter, no one's commands will be obeyed. According to their actions, each and every person proceeds. Meditate in remembrance on the Lord and Master, O my Siblings of Destiny; everyone has to pass this way. ||2|| Whatever pleases the Almighty Lord, that alone comes to pass; this world is an opportunity to please Him. The True Creator Lord is pervading and permeating the water, the land and the air. The True Creator Lord is invisible and infinite; His limits cannot be found. Fruitful is the coming of those, who meditate single-mindedly on Him. He destroys, and having destroyed, He creates; by His Order, He adorns us. Whatever pleases the Almighty Lord, that alone comes to pass; this world is an opportunity to please Him. ||3|| Nanak: he alone truly weeps, O Baba, who weeps in the Lord's Love. One who weeps for the sake of worldly objects, O Baba, weeps totally in vain. This weeping is all in vain; the world forgets the Lord, and weeps for the sake of Maya. He does not distinguish between good and evil, and wastes away this life in vain. Everyone who comes here, shall have to leave; to act in ego is false. Nanak: he alone truly weeps, O Baba, who weeps in the Lord's Love. ||4||1||

Wadajans, Mejl Guru Nanak, Primer Canal Divino, Alajanis, Melodía de Réquiem. Un Dios Creador del Universo, por la Gracia del Verdadero Guru Bendito es mi Señor Creador, Rey Verdadero, Quien le designa a cada uno, una tarea. Cuando el tiempo de uno se acaba, y la copa de la vida se llena, entonces el Alma bienamada es retirada del cuerpo. El Alma amada es sacada del cuerpo, pues tal es el Decreto del Señor. Los parientes se lamentan, pero el cuerpo y el Alma cisne se tienen que separar cuando el tiempo de la vida se ha terminado. Dependiendo del destino producido y según como fueron mis acciones en el pasado, obtuve este cuerpo humano. Bendito es mi Señor Creador, el Rey Verdadero, Quien le designa a cada uno una tarea. (1) Contemplen al Señor, oh mis Hermanos, pues todos se tienen que ir de esta forma. La lucha aquí es por unos cuantos días, y después, ciertamente, uno se va al más allá. Siendo un invitado en la tierra por corto tiempo, uno parte al más allá con toda certeza. ¿Por qué entonces involucrarse con el ego? ¿Por qué no alabar el Nombre del Señor, ya que Sirviéndolo uno obtiene Éxtasis en la Corte Divina? El poder de uno no se extiende al más allá. No se sabe qué será de uno después. Alaben al Señor, oh mis compañeros, pues todos tienen que partir de esta forma algún día. (2) Todo lo que está en la Voluntad de mi Señor Todopoderoso, sucede. Este mundo es efímero; el Verdadero Señor Creador es Infinito e Inefable y nadie ha conocido Su Límite. Fructífero es el advenimiento al mundo de aquéllos que viven con su mente entonada en el Señor. El Señor destruye y reconstruye y adorna todo desde Su Voluntad; sí, lo que mi Señor Todopoderoso desea, e so toma lugar porque este mundo es tan sólo el Foro de Su Acción. (3) Oh Nanak, uno sufre en verdad cuando se lamenta por amores mundanos. Si uno sufre por las posesiones, todo el sufrimiento es vano. Vano es el sufrimiento, cuando uno olvida al Señor, porque en última instancia, se sufre por lo que no es, por una ilusión. Sin discriminar entre lo Verdadero y lo falso, uno desperdicia su vida sin ningún sentido, porque todo lo que te crea una imagen falsa es tan sólo vanidad. Aquél que viene, tendrá que partir. Dice Nanak, vale la pena afligirse, si la aflicción se tiene por el Verdadero Amor. (4-1)

Baba Atal Rai


Baba Atal Rai (c. 1619 - 23 July, 1627) was born in 1619 AD at Amritsar to Guru Hargobind sahib, the sixth Sikh Guru and Mata Mahadevi, daughter of Bhai Daya Ram Marwah of Mandeala. From early age he was intelligent, lively and a deeply religious boy. He was called 'Baba' because he carried a wise head over his young shoulders. (Here Baba means, wise old man). He used to play every evening with his age-mates and tell them many wise things. Whatever he said, even in jest, had some deep humane meaning. All his playmates loved, respected and obeyed him. Guru Hargobind was specially fond of him. He used to take him in his lap, cuddle him and say, “God has given you much power. Don’t make a show of it. If you have to use it, use it with caution and wisdom. Don’t waste it away on little things”. Baba Atal Rai used to say in reply, “O True King, all the power that I possess I have obtained from you. Your storehouse can never be empty. Therefore, I may use it to my heart’s content. It will never be used up.” Bibi Kaulan, the daughter of Lahore’s Qazi had been a dedicated devotee of Guru Har Gobind Sahib. Kaulsar Sarovar (Pool) was built by Guru Hargobind sahib in her memory. She was extremely fond of Baba Atal Rai who reciprocated her affection. Atal Rai along with his playmates used to play under the shady trees of Kikar, Thali, etc on the bank of Kaulsar. Being bold and active, Atal Rai was the captain of his playmates. One of Atal’s playmates was Mohan, who was about the same age as Atal. One day they played on until the night fell. At the end of the game, it was Atal’s turn to play with the bat and Mohan’s to throw and pick up the ball. It was mutually agreed that Atal would have his turn the next morning, and they returned home. That night, Mohan got up from his bed to answer a call of nature. It was pitch dark. As fate would have it, he stumbled on a cobra and was bitten by it. He screamed in agony. His cries awoke his parents. They rushed to him and found him fainting. They sent for a hakim (homeopathic doctor), but the cobra’s poison had done its work. And thus Atal’s boon companion died of snake-bite. Next morning, all the boys reached the playground, except Mohan. Atal Rai enquired about Mohan. One of his playmates replied in jest that Mohan had not come out of fear for it was his turn to throw the ball. Atal Rai went straight to Mohan’s home. He found Mohan’s parents and others in deep mourning. When told that Mohan was dead, Baba Atal Rai said, “No, he can’t be dead. He is pretending to be dead. He does not wish to give me my turn with the bat. I will make him get up.” Saying this, he went to Mohan’s room. He touched him with his bat and said, “Mohan, get up and say Satnam Waheguru. Open your eyes. You should not be so late to rise from bed. I must have my turn with the bat.” Upon this, Mohan got up as if from sleep. He had been dead for four and a half hours. Naturally, his parents were filled with joy. Baba Atal Rai and Mohan went out and began to play. The prince among martyrs and the ocean of Repose, Guru Arjun Dev has written in his Sukhmani thus: God restores the dead to life, He feeds the hungry. The news of Mohan’s revival spread like wild fire. Guru Hargobind Sahib also heard about what his son had done. He was not at all pleased. He said, “It has become a habit with Atal to display and dissipate his spiritual power. He has not acted well or wisely. Now, whenever any boy would die, his parents will bring him to our door. Whose dead son shall we bring back to life and whose son shall we allow to remain dead? We must obey God’s will. We should not try to undo what He has done.” When Baba Atal Rai returned home, the Guru said to him with a touch of sternness, “I teach men to obey God’s will. But you act against His will. Your grandfather, Guru Arjan Dev, courted martyrdom at the altar of his faith. In spite of being tortured, he kept calm, and quiet and kept thinking of God. He kept repeating: Thy will is ever so sweet to me. Guru Hargobind Sahib reminded young Atal that two of a trade seldom agreed and kept quiet after that. Baba Atal Rai said, “O True King, may you live for ages. I feel that I should go back to our true home.” So saying, he went away. He took his bath in the sacred sarovar, took four rounds of the sacred Harimandir Sahib and went to the nearby Kaulsar Sarovar (lake) - his favourite haunt. He sat near its bank. Bending his head forward, he supported his chin with his bat. With his eyes fixed on the sacred temple, he recited Japji Sahib, offered prayers. After that, he departed peacefully for his True Home on July 23, 1628 A.D. Guru Hargobind Sahib soon learned of his son’s passing away in these strange circumstances. He advised his family and his Sikhs not to go into mourning, saying: “All those who are born must die. Such is the Almighty’s Will. What pleases Him is good. We should accept it cheerfully. Atal’s name and fame shall live forever.” Baba Atal’s body was cremated at the spot where he had renounced it. Guru Hargobind Sahib said, “Atal has, by God’s Will, given up his body in his ninth year. A nine storied Memorial shall be built here, so that it can be seen from afar.” Later, the tower was built between 1778 and 1784. At the spot now stands a beautiful nine storied Gurdwara known as Baba Atal Sahib. To express their reverence to his bountiful nature, people call out to the open hearted prince of truth: “O Baba Atal, Pakkian Pakaian ghal.” O Baba, the revered one, send us well-baked bread to satiate our hunger. Since then, faithful Sikhs distribute cakes of bread to all visitors. There is also the tradition attached to Baba Atal that whenever the city has a long dry spell in the hottest summer, the sangat and devotees have a holy bath in the pool next to this nine storied tower - and invariably there are wide-spread showers in the city of Amritsar. Gurdwara Baba Atal, the tallest tower in Amritsar city, on one side of the Kaulsar savorar in the Golden Temple complex, enshrines the memory of the Sixth Guru the Master of Miri Piri, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib and his son, Baba Atal Rai. O Lord! Thy Name is the wealth of the poor, And the refuge of the homeless. It is the honour of the lowly, And the sustenance of the hungry souls. Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh..

The mortal being does not know how to chant Your Name - he is intoxicated with the wine of Maya, and the thought of death does not even enter his mind. ||1||

Ang 686 • Guru Nanak Dev Ji • Raag Dhanaasree
English Translation:
Dhanaasaree, First Mehl: That union with the Lord is acceptable, which is united in intuitive poise. Thereafter, one does not die, and does not come and go in reincarnation. The Lord's slave is in the Lord, and the Lord is in His slave. Wherever I look, I see none other than the Lord. ||1|| The Gurmukhs worship the Lord, and find His celestial home. Without meeting the Guru, they die, and come and go in reincarnation. ||1||Pause|| So make Him your Guru, who implants the Truth within you, who leads you to speak the Unspoken Speech, and who merges you in the Word of the Shabad. God's people have no other work to do; they love the True Lord and Master, and they love the Truth. ||2|| The mind is in the body, and the True Lord is in the mind. Merging into the True Lord, one is absorbed into Truth. God's servant bows at His feet. Meeting the True Guru, one meets with the Lord. ||3|| He Himself watches over us, and He Himself makes us see. He is not pleased by stubborn-mindedness, nor by various religious robes. He fashioned the body-vessels, and infused the Ambrosial Nectar into them; God's Mind is pleased only by loving devotional worship. ||4|| Reading and studying, one becomes confused, and suffers punishment. By great cleverness, one is consigned to coming and going in reincarnation. One who chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and eats the food of the Fear of God becomes Gurmukh, the Lord's servant, and remains absorbed in the Lord. ||5|| He worships stones, dwells at sacred shrines of pilgrimage and in the jungles, wanders, roams around and becomes a renunciate. But his mind is still filthy - how can he become pure? One who meets the True Lord obtains honor. ||6|| One who embodies good conduct and contemplative meditation, his mind abides in intuitive poise and contentment, since the beginning of time, and throughout the ages. In the twinkling of an eye, he saves millions. Have mercy on me, O my Beloved, and let me meet the Guru. ||7|| Unto whom, O God, should I praise You? Without You, there is no other at all. As it pleases You, keep me under Your Will. Nanak, with intuitive poise and natural love, sings Your Glorious Praises. ||8||2||



Spanish Translation:
Dhanasri, Mejl Guru Nanak, Primer Canal Divino. Sólo podrá encontrar a su Dios, ese ser que lo haga, en Verdad, a través de un Estado de Equilibrio, sólo y entonces ese ser no morirá, ni se irá, ni vendrá. En el Maestro está el alumno, en el alumno está Él, el Señor, pues a donde sea que volteo a ver, veo nada más que a Dios. (1) A través del Guru uno obtiene Su Alabanza y el Estado de Equilibrio, pero sin conocer al Guru, uno sólo va y viene. (1-Pausa) Yo buscaría por todas partes a ese Guru, quien pudiera instalar la Verdad del Señor en mi mente, entonarme en la Palabra del Shabd y recitarme el Misterio de lo Indecible. Los seres de Dios no son atraídos por ninguna otra idea más que la de amar la Verdad del Señor y al Señor Verdadero. (2) La mente está en el cuerpo, en la mente está el Dios Verdadero, y conociendo al Dios Verdadero, uno es fundido en Él. El Devoto llega a postrarse a los Pies del Señor y se encuentra con el Guru Perfecto y Verdadero. (3) El Señor Mismo lo ve todo y nos hace ver a nosotros Sus Maravillas. Pero Él no está complacido si uno impone su propia voluntad o se viste con muchos atuendos. Sólo a través de la Adoración Amorosa de Aquél que construyó los recipientes de nuestros cuerpos y puso el Néctar en su interior, la mente es saciada. (4) El hombre lee y lee y se pierde en sus lecturas y mientras más afila su intelecto, más va y viene. Si él contempla el Nombre del Señor, si su mente se alimenta del Fervor del Señor y si sirve a su Dios, entonces él, por la Gracia del Guru, se inmerge en Dios. (5) Si uno alaba alguna piedra o se va a vivir en los bosques o en los lugares santos, o vaga sin rumbo pidiendo limosna, volviéndose asceta, eso en sí no lo va a purificar, pues su mente es la que está impura. Pero si uno recibe la Verdad, uno logra rescatar su honor. (6) Hacia Aquél que tiene la Conducta Correcta y Sabiduría en su interior. Hacia Aquél que habita desde el principio de los tiempos en toda Paz y Contentamiento, y a Quien en un parpadeo de Su Mirada Maravillosa, salva a millones de almas, oh Amor, guíame, guíame hasta tal Guru por Misericordia. (7) Oh Dios, ¿a quién voy a alabar, cuando no hay nadie más que Tú? Consérvame, oh Señor, así como es Tu Voluntad, para que pueda yo entonar Tu Alabanza de manera espontánea. (8-2
