Mata Khivi Ji

Mata Khivi Ji

guruKhivi was born in 1506 to Karan Devi17 and Bhai Devi Chand Khatri.

She lived to the age of 75 and died in the year 1582. Guru Arjun Dev attended her funeral.

Mata Khivi, wife of Guru Angad Dev, is the only lady whose name has been mentioned in Sri Guru Granth Sahib. She has been highly praised in one of the hymns composed by Balwand and entered in Guru Granth Sahib at page 967. It goes like this: buluvu(n)dd kheevee naek jun jis buhuthee shhaao puthraalee || lu(n)gar dhoulath vu(n)ddeeai rus a(n)mrith kheer ghiaalee || (Copied from www. sikhitothemax.com Here ‘th’ stands for s and ‘dh’ stands for d.) Balwand says that Khivi, the Guru's wife, is a noble woman, who gives soothing, leafy shade to all.

Sri Guru Granth Sahib JI

VAAR OF RAAG SORATíH, FOURTH MEHL:

ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:

Ang-643

Serve the Immaculate Lord God, and meditate on the Lord's Name.

ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ;

Join the Society of the Holy Saints, and be absorbed in the Lord's Name.

O Lord, glorious and great is service to You; I am so foolish

ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਾਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਭਗਤੀ) ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈ;

- please, commit me to it. I am Your servant and slave; command me, according to Your Will.

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ;

As Gurmukh, I shall serve You, as Guru has instructed me. ||2||

SHALOK, THIRD MEHL:

He acts according to pre-ordained destiny, written by the Creator Himself. Emotional attachment has drugged him, and he has forgotten the Lord, the treasure of virtue. Don’t think that he is alive in the world o he is dead, through the love of duality.

Those who do not meditate on the Lord, as Gurmukh, are not permitted to sit near the Lord. They suffer the most horrible pain and suffering, and neither their sons nor their wives go along with them. Their faces are blackened among men, and they sigh in deep regret. No one places any reliance in the self-willed manmukhs; trust in them is lost. O Nanak, the Gurmukhs live inabsolute peace; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, abides within them.

Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji in Macchiwara

In the jungles of Machiwara in the cold winter of 1704, having watched their two eldest sons and closest Sikh devotees fall bravely in battle, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji lay with their head resting on a rock. Shaheed Singhs, those who had attained martyrdom fighting at the battle of Chamkaur came in their spirit form to inform the Guru of the result of the battle and receive further orders. Pleased with their bravery, courage and the sacrifice they had made for Dharam, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji told the Shaheed Singhs to ascend to Sachkhand, the abode of truth where the Divine being resides in complete form. The Shaheed Singhs asked Guru Sahib what message they wished to send from middle earth to the perfect complete Being in Sackhand. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji replied;

Convey to the dear friend the condition of the disciples,

Without Thee, the taking over of quilt is like disease and living in the house is like living with serpents;

The flask is like the spike, the cup is like a dagger and (the separation) is like enduring the chopper of the butchers,

The straw bed of the beloved Friend is most pleasing and the worldly pleasures are like furnace.1.1

This shabad is widely regarded as one of the finest pieces of moving Punjabi poetry ever written. It reminds us to forever keep our mind attached to the leaving feet of Akaal Purakh in times of joy and pain and overcome temporary sensual experiences. This is because Akaal Purakh is the source of true and everlasting joy, and separation from this is the most intense pain experienced by the soul. It is unfortunate that those with an agenda against the writings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji have not spared this divine composition from their malicious and uneducated musings. Let them serve to further our own relationship and bond with the Divine Bani of our Guru.

SHABAD HAZAARAY

Bani
SHABAD HAZAARAY
The first Shabad of this Bani was written by Guru Arjan when he was separated from Guru Ram Das for a long period of time. During that period of separation he sent these three letters to his beloved Guru and Father. Reciting this shabad brings union of the beloved. The fourth shabad was added by Guru Arjan at the time of the union with Guru Ram Das.

In the turbulant times after Guru Arjun Dev Ji's martydom the Sikhs came to Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji (sixth Guru) and said "O Lord of all the heavens we are in turbulant times where we are preparing and training for battle which is cutting into our Naam/Simran time. Please tell us Sir, what prayers should we recite to make for this?" Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji answered that they should recite the shabads of Guru Arjun Dev Ji that he wrote to Guru Ram Das Ji.

RAMKALI: GURU AMAR DAS, ANAND

The Creator of all is One;
This is realized by the True Guru's grace.

Oh my mother, i am in ecstasy, for I have found the True Guru.
Yes, in a flash, I found my Lord and my mind is filled with the Song of Bliss, Like every jeweled angel and the fairies of every region, all joined in chorus to sing the song of the Word.
All who have Him enshrined in their minds sing the Word of the Lord.
Sayeth Nanak: I am truly in ecstasy,
for I have realized my True Guru. (1)

Bibi Bhanni Ji (Nanded 1708)

Nanded 1708
Guru Amar Das Ji the third Guru of the Sikhs was married to Mansa Devi and had two sons Mohari and Mohan, and two daughters Dhani and Bhanni. As Guru Ji was quite old Bibi Bhanni Ji would help him take a bath in the morning. One day Guru Sahib Ji was sitting on a stool while Bibi Ji poured water over him when suddenly one of the legs of the stool broke. Thinking quickly Bibi Ji stuck her foot under the stool, the broken leg still attached to the stool dug into Bibi’s foot. Blood gushed out but Bibi Ji did not utter a cry. Guru Sahib Ji enquired why the water was running red. When they saw what had happened they became very emotional. They dried her foot and wrapped a bandage around it, they were feeling deep emotions “Bhanni, maybe a father can tolerate seeing the blood of a son being spilt, but who can stand seeing the blood of a daughter being spilt, your service to your father and Guru is truly great, the House of Guru Nanak is open to you, ask your hearts desire and it will be granted.” Such was the spiritual greatness of Bibi Bhanni Ji that she did not ask for any worldly possessions, she said “ If the house of Nanak is open then what I desire most is that the Guruship remains in our family.”

(When do you make your parents feel happy, and they feel happy with you, you are transforming your Karma into Dharma, your life is going to convert in Dhamra for sure, by the grace of the Guru.)
but I think this is the message of this story, (these words can be found in the Guru Granth Sahib).

Satnam Waheguru Ji

Sri Raag Guru Nanak Dev

As long as there is youth and breath, give this body to Him.

Sri Raag Guru Nanak Dev

Without virtue, it is useless; the body shall crumble into a pile of dust. ||1||

O my mind, earn the profit, before you return home.

The Gurmukh praises the Naam, and the fire of egotism is extinguished. ||1||Pause||

Sri Raag Guru Nanak Dev

Again and again, we hear and tell stories; we read and write and understand loads of knowledge,

Sri Raag Guru Nanak Dev

But still, desires increase day and night, and the disease of egotism fills us with corruption.

Sri Raag Guru Nanak Dev

That Carefree Lord cannot be appraised; His Real Value is known only through the Wisdom of the Guru's Teachings. ||2||

Sri Raag Guru Nanak Dev

Even if someone has hundreds of thousands of clever mental tricks, and the love and company of hundreds of thousands of people

Sri Raag Guru Nanak Dev

Still, without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he will not feel satisfied. Without the Name, all suffer in sorrow.

Chanting the Name of the Lord, O my soul, you shall be emancipated; as Gurmukh, you shall come to understand your own self. ||3||

Sri Raag Guru Nanak Dev

I have sold my body and mind to the Guru, and I have given my mind and head as well.

I was seeking and searching for Him throughout the three worlds; then, as Gurmukh, I sought and found Him.

| | 1 | | Pausa
